General costs and fees

The total cost can be divided into three parts: the fee for the LCA consultant, the fee for the verifier, and the registration fee to EPD Denmark.

Besides from this it can also be expected that time shall be used fwithin the compant for datacollection and other cooperations with the LCA consultant.

Here is a general overview of what you pay for an EPD:

  1. Fee for the LCA consultant
    • This fee covers the preparation of the EPD itself and the underlying LCA report. The LCA consultant collects data, conducts the environmental assessment, and prepares the documentation and EPD's.
    • The cost for an LCA varies depending on the number and complexity of the products.
    • The final price depends on how extensive the data collection is and how many products/EPDs are included in the task.
  2. Fee for the verifier
    • The verifier is an independent third party who approves the EPD according to relevant standards (required for the EPD to be valid).
    • The LCA consultant can often help with contacting and arranging an agreement with a verifier. Otherwise, the verifiers that can be used within EPD Danmark can be found here.
    • The cost of verification depends on how extensive the documentation is, with additional fees for each extra EPD.
  3. Registration and annual fees to EPD Denmark
    • Once the EPD has been verified, an annual fee is paid to EPD Denmark throughout the EPD’s validity period (normally 5 years), covering publication, administration, system maintenance, etc.
    • The fee depends on the company’s size and the number of published EPDs.
    • Publication in multiple languages may entail additional fees.
    • EPD Denmark is non-profit, and the fees cover the secretariat, operation, as well as the maintenance of the system and standardisation.
